Thanks! >>I’d love to do a book some day, once I’ve got the experience to back it up.>>Something which is both great and awful about the internet is that anyone can publish anything they want, with no editor to answer to. 😉

I'm a 36 year old fit-ish male, albeit with a slight beer-belly, whose considering joining the local BJJ club. I'm popping along to watch tomorrow and, I have to say, I can't think of any original questions I need to ask after perusing this beauty of an article. You put to rest one personal niggle after another. Can't thank you enough.

Very comprehensive, mate. Your training blog has encouraged me to take that step into the grappler's world ( and set up my own training blog as well 😉 )

My name is Can (pronounced 'Jun', weirdly enough). I co-founded Artemis BJJ | Brazilian Jiu Jitsu in Bristol in 2014, which is where I teach and train. I have also been running slideyfoot.com, a BJJ resources site, since around 2004.
This WordPress version is a back-up, and therefore is not normally updated, unless the main site is down (if you're looking for GrappleThon.org, that's here). Note that internal links generally refer to the main site, as I haven't changed them all yet: for the moment, using the search box above is probably a more reliable method of finding what you want. :)
Slidey,>>This is excellent! If you hadn’t planned to do so, you should put a book together.

Nice one mate, I've been forwarding this to every BJJ student I know.

Thanks, slidey, and see you on the mats someday.

Hi Slidey, I also thought about it and I think what is missing is a decent explanation of what the rules are for BJJ (which techniques are illegal).
People go to compete for the first time and the rules raise a bunch of questions. Could be good for the FAQ
